Lesser Malay Mouse Deer

Tragulus javanicus

The Lesser Malay Mouse Deer lives in Southeast Asian lowland forests ranging from southern China, Indochina and Thailand through Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore to Sumatra, Java and Borneo. It is the smallest artiodactyl. It weighs between 1.5 and 2.5 kilograms and measures between 45 to 55 centimeters from head to rump.

This animal feeds on leaves, shoots, fallen fruits and sometimes fungi.

Female lesser Malay mouse deer are able to get pregnant again only 1.5 hours after giving birth.
