African Black Duck

Anas sparsa

The African Black Duck inhabits central and southern Africa. It is a very shy and territorial bird. In some regions it likes to spend its days in rivers and streams of water and the nights in large open waters. Its diet consists of aquatic animals, plants, seeds, small fish, and larvae and pupae that it finds under rocks.

The above picture was taken at the zoo of Wuppertal, Germany, in April 2011.
