• I was born in the 20th century in an even year, multiple of a prime number larger than 100 and smaller than 150. I never lived contemporaneously with Einstein.

• The number of letters of the month (in English) that I was born in is a prime.

• If you subtract 1 from the day of the month I was born on you get a prime number, from which if you subtract x and then multiply the result by the same x, you get the total number of days of the month I was born in, while x is an odd prime and a divisor of the year I was born in.

I used to offer “100$” to those who would tell me my year, month, and day of birth. Later I realized that many people could not see through the joke (you know, 100 $’s), and were sincerely asking for $100. So I removed the silly bait. Still, if you do take the time to solve the puzzle before contacting me (assuming it is within your abilities), I will appreciate it.

I was born in Edessa, a small town in Macedonia, which, as all of you know, is a region of northern Greece.
I speak Greek (fairly well), and English (passably).
I have no religion, no profession, no income, no expectations. But I do have wonderful children.

I studied at the computer science department of Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana, U.S.A. My research has been in cognitive science; specifically, in visual pattern recognition, and the Bongard Problems. But I think my life would be very dull if I didn’t have the chance to learn also about astronomy, biology (and creationism), classic literature, cognition, language, math, philosophy, physics, religion, as well as about some social issues.

I thought I should repeat once more that I worked on the Bongard problems. Last time I did a web search for “Bongard” I found more than a dozen links to companies having Bongard in their title. Who wants to know about Bongard enterprises! The only interesting Bongard-stuff is the Bongard problems. Of course, if web indexing engines become so smart so as to understand what I am doing here, I will not need to be concerned with Bongard problems anymore: the problem of implementing true human-level intelligence will have been solved. • Γεννήθηκα ένα άρτιο έτος του 20ού αιώνα, πολλαπλάσιο ενός πρώτου αριθμού μεγαλύτερου του 100 και μικρότερου του 150. Δεν έζησα ποτέ όσο ζούσε ο Αϊνστάιν.

• Ο αριθμός των γραμμάτων του μήνα που γεννήθηκα στα Αγγλικά¹ είναι πρώτος.

• Αν αφαιρέσετε 1 απ’ την ημέρα του μήνα γέννησής μου θα πάρετε έναν αριθμό πρώτο, απ’ τον οποίο αν αφαιρέσετε x και μετά πολ/σετε το αποτέλεσμα με το ίδιο x, θα πάρετε το σύνολο των ημερών του μήνα που γεννήθηκα, ενώ το x είναι περιττός πρώτος, και διαιρέτης του έτους γέννησής μου.

Μέχρι πρότινος προσέφερα “100$” σε όποιον μου έλεγε το έτος, μήνα, και ημέρα που γεννήθηκα. Αργότερα κατάλαβα οτι πολύς κόσμος δεν μπορούσε να δει το τρικ (ξέρετε, άλλο 100 $, κι άλλο $100), και μου ζητούσαν στα σοβαρά εκατό δολλάρια. Έτσι, αφαίρεσα το πονηρό δόλωμα. Παρ’ όλ’ αυτά, αν κάνετε τον κόπο να λύσετε το αίνιγμα πριν μου γράψετε (δεδομένου οτι μπορείτε), θα το εκτιμήσω.

Γεννήθηκα στην Έδεσσα, τη μικρή πόλη της Μακεδονίας (-μας), που όλοι ξέρουμε οτι είναι τμήμα της Βόρειας Ελλάδας.
Μιλάω Ελληνικά (καλούτσικα), και Αγγλικά (υποφερτά).
Δεν έχω θρησκεία, ούτε επάγγελμα, ούτε εισόδημα, ούτε προσδοκίες. Έχω όμως δυο υπέροχες θυγατέρες.

Σπούδασα στο τμήμα επιστήμης υπολογιστών του Indiana University στο Bloomington των Η.Π.Α. Η έρευνα που έχω κάνει είναι στη νοολογία (ή αλλιώς “γνωσιακή επιστήμη”)· συγκεκριμένα, στην αναγνώριση οπτικών μοτίβων, και στα προβλήματα του Μπόνγκαρντ (Bongard). Αλλά πιστεύω πως η ζωή-μου θα ήταν πολύ βαρετή αν δεν είχα την ευκαιρία ν’ ασχοληθώ επίσης με την αστρονομία, τη βιολογία (και το δημιουργισμό), τη γλωσσολογία, τη θρησκεία, την κλασική λογοτεχνία, τα μαθηματικά, τη νόηση, τη φιλοσοφία, τη φυσική, αλλά και με κάποια κοινωνικά θέματα.

Πολλά από τα παραπάνω — όσα είναι σχετικά με την επιστήμη — τα διδάσκω σε κάτι το οποίο έχω ονομάσει «Διαδικτυακό Επιστημονικό Πανεπιστήμιο». Πρόκειται για μια υπηρεσία που προσφέρω σε όποιον ενδιαφέρεται να αποκτήσει γνώσεις επιστημονικές, που για οποιονδήποτε λόγο δεν είχε την ευκαιρία να τις αποκτήσει μέχρι τώρα. Θα πρέπει όμως o ενδιαφερόμενος να μην αναμένει οικονομικό όφελος από τις γνώσεις αυτές. Με άλλα λόγια, αντίθετα με το ρεύμα της εποχής-μας, πρέπει να βλέπει τη γνώση σαν αυτοσκοπό. Μόνο για Έλληνες.

• Yo nací en el siglo XX en un año par, múltiplo de un número primo mayor que 100 y menor que 150. Nunca fui contemporáneo de Einstein.

• El número de letras del mes en que nací, en inglés,¹ es primo.

• Si usted resta 1 al día del mes en que yo nací, obtendrá un número primo. Si a este número usted le resta x, y luego multiplica el resultado por el mismo x, obtendrá el número total de días del mes en que nací. Además x es un primo impar y un divisor del año en que nací.

Hace un tiempo yo solía ofrecer “100$” a quienes me dijeran el día, mes y año de mi nacimiento. Pero luego me dí cuenta de que muchas personas no veían la broma (una cosa es 100$ y otra es $100) y en verdad esperaban recibir cien dólares. Entonces, mejor quité el anzuelo. De todas maneras, si usted hace el esfuerzo y resuelve el acertijo antes de escribirme (suponiendo que usted tiene la capacidad para hacerlo), yo lo apreciaré mucho.

Yo nací en Edessa, una pequeña ciudad de Macedonia que, como todos ustedes saben, es una región del norte de Grecia.
Hablo griego (digamos que bien), e inglés (aceptablemente).
No tengo religión, ni profesión, ni ingresos, ni expectativas. Pero tengo dos hijas maravillosas.

Estudié en el Departamento de Ciencias de la Computación de Indiana University en Bloomington, Indiana, U.S.A. Mi investigación es en ciencia cognitiva, específicamente en reconocimiento de patrones visuales y en problemas de Bongard. Pero pienso que mi vida sería muy aburrida si no tuviera la oportunidad de trabajar también en astronomía, biología (y creacionismo), cognición, filosofía, física, lingüística, literatura clasica, matemáticas, religión, e incluso en algunos temas sociales.
